Comics Catch Phrases - Which is Better? Flame On vs. It’s Clobberin’ Time

51savrulwl_sl160_51thqhqbp6l_sl160_I put this question to you; which of these two family-feuding Fantastic Four teammates has the better catch phrase:

Ben Grimm a.k.a. THE THING with
“It’s Clobberin Time”!

OR

Johnny Storm a.k.a. THE HUMAN TORCH with
“Flame On”!

That’s a tricky question.  There are many factors to consider and we will do exactly that in today’s entry.

The Weekly Pile March 18, 2009: Dark Avengers #3, Ultimatum #3, Uncanny X-Men #507, Wolverine #71, X-Force #13

The Weekly Pile is 5 issues strong this time around which is a vast improvement over last week’s unfortunate haul (or non-haul).  After digesting this past Wednesday’s crop, I quickly realized that every issue I purchased was published by Marvel.  I believe this is a first for me as a DC or Image book will typically find its way into the mix.  But, Marvel appears to be the publisher of the week as they secured 100% of my comics budget after I bought the following issues:

The Weekly Pile March 11, 2009: Lightning Strikes Twice…

Unbelievably, my Weekly Pile contained the exact same number of new releases this week as it did on Wednesday February 11 of this year…  ZERO.  Not a single new issue.  As detailed in that entry, this was the first time “New Comic Book Day” had not delivered the goods since I began reading weekly books.  Well, four weeks have passed since then and it has happened again.  This seems to suggest that this is not a fluke, but something that may occur again.  What can I do to prevent this from happening again…

Photo Journal #3: Balloon Incredible HULK!

hulk-balloon-headerI’m back with another superhero balloon!  After creating a relatively basic Spider-Man in the last Photo Journal entry, YouTube has now helped me to immortalize the Incredible Hulk in green and purple rubber.  This one was a pretty intricate and took a while to complete, but the results were worth it.  Thanks to the Happy Cabbie for the tutorial video.

Please continue on to see the Incredible Hulk balloon I created from start to finish. I will also link to the instructional video I used to create him.

Trivia Time #6: Watchmen - How Much Do You Know?

41mz-9du5tl_sl160_Now that the highly anticipated big screen version of Watchmen has opened theatrically this past weekend, let’s find out how much you remember about the DC Comics super team.  It’s been over 20 years since the landmark comic book series was published, so hopefully your memory has held up.

There will be 10 questions in total. I will post the answers to these questions on the Trivia Answers page. No peeking until AFTER you have taken the quiz!

Continue on to take the quiz and be sure to keep score and find out how you did when you finish. Each question is worth one point unless otherwise noted.

The Weekly Pile March 4, 2009: The Authority #8, Batman: Cacophony #3, Buffy the Vampire Slayer #23, Cable #12, Secret Warriors #2

This week’s pile entry will (hopefully) be a quick one as I have a crazy schedule today.  I will attempt to present my thoughts pertaining to each issue in one concise paragraph.  It’s actually something I have been meaning to try anyway.  We’ll see if this is something I am capable of.  Five issues came home with me this week and they are presented below:

A Great Read #8: Previews Review Edition - Previews Issue 246 - PART 1

previews-246-front-smThe new issue of Previews was released this past Wednesday so that means it is time to dive in to see what looks exciting!

I encourage you to get a copy of the new Previews catalog if you don’t already have one so you can follow along with this entry. It’s certainly not required, but it will help out a bit. The catalog is pretty thick, so this entry will be done in 2 parts to ensure that as many items can be covered as possible.

The Weekly Pile February 25, 2009: Fantastic Four #564, Hulk #10, Mighty Avengers #22, New Avengers #50, Spawn #189, The Sword #15, X-Force #12

Now this is more like it.  This week’s collection of comics is a substantial stack.  After a couple of pretty lean weeks, the pile is back!   I left my comic shop with no less than seven books this week, so I’m not going to waste time with a drawn out introduction.  I won’t even bother to finish this sen…

Photo Journal #2: Balloon Spider-Man!

spidey-011This afternoon I stepped over a line into super-geek territory…  I found myself combining my fondness for comic books with a recently remembered hobby.   Most everyone have seen those balloon-animal dogs at the circus or during a street festival at some point in their lives and I recall always wanting to learn how to make them.  So, many years ago I bought some balloons and a “how-to” book and taught myself the basics of making balloon animals (I could make a dog)…  Fast forward to this afternoon and thanks to YouTube, I have discovered that there are many talented people out there making much more than just balloon canines.  If you search hard enough, you can find balloon versions of Batman, Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man and of course, Spider-Man.

You know I had to try making one…

Please continue on to see the Spider-Man balloon I created from start to finish.  I will also link to the instructional video I used to create him.
