The Weekly Pile February 25, 2009: Fantastic Four #564, Hulk #10, Mighty Avengers #22, New Avengers #50, Spawn #189, The Sword #15, X-Force #12

Now this is more like it.  This week’s collection of comics is a substantial stack.  After a couple of pretty lean weeks, the pile is back!   I left my comic shop with no less than seven books this week, so I’m not going to waste time with a drawn out introduction.  I won’t even bother to finish this sen…

Photo Journal #2: Balloon Spider-Man!

spidey-011This afternoon I stepped over a line into super-geek territory…  I found myself combining my fondness for comic books with a recently remembered hobby.   Most everyone have seen those balloon-animal dogs at the circus or during a street festival at some point in their lives and I recall always wanting to learn how to make them.  So, many years ago I bought some balloons and a “how-to” book and taught myself the basics of making balloon animals (I could make a dog)…  Fast forward to this afternoon and thanks to YouTube, I have discovered that there are many talented people out there making much more than just balloon canines.  If you search hard enough, you can find balloon versions of Batman, Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man and of course, Spider-Man.

You know I had to try making one…

Please continue on to see the Spider-Man balloon I created from start to finish.  I will also link to the instructional video I used to create him.

The Weekly Pile February 18, 2009: Dark Avengers #2, Four Eyes #2, Uncanny X-Men #506

Unlike last week’s disappointing entry, there are actually comic books in today’s Weekly Pile!  The pile this week includes a pair of #2 issues and a series that has made it all the way to issue #506.  Enough exposition; time for new comics!

Final X-Men Origins: Wolverine TV Spots Now Online - “Legends”

My guess from yesterday’s post was validated today when I watched the 3rd X-Men Origins: Wolverine extended TV Spot and got to see brand new footage of Logan’s supporting cast ripping, tearing and blowing up the screen. The title “Legends” is rather appropriate for the trailer as the number of all-star characters zipping on and off screen during the spot’s 61 second run time is staggering. We are able to view glimpses of the Blob, John Wraith, Deadpool, Silver Fox, Gambit and still more!

Watch the trailer below to play “Spot the Mutant”

2nd of 3 New X-Men Origins: Wolverine TV Spots Now Online - “Brothers”

Yup, I’m that much more excited for Wolverine: Origins thanks to the second helping of “snikt” 20th Century FOX has released online in as many days!  The intriguingly named “Brothers” is an exciting follow up to the ”Outcasts“ TV spot yesterday, this time deciding to focus more on Logan the soldier as opposed to a child with puberty issues.  With only one more spot remaining to be released, I find myself curious as to what will be given the spotlight next.  My guess is that the multiple mutants set to appear in the movie will be front and center.  A third TV spot featuring more Deadpool and Gambit would meet with approval from this particular X-fan.

Have a peek for yourself below and see what you think:

New X-Men Origins: Wolverine “Outcasts” TV Spot = Kid Wolvie With Bone Claws!!!

519mjszteal_sl160_I legitimately do not care one bit what other people are saying about X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  The somewhat negative buzz surrounding this potential summer blockbuster completely astounds me.  Much of what I have seen up to this point has only added to my anticipation to see this movie on May 1st and viewing the first of a reported 3 new TV spots being shown on FOX TV over consecutive nights this week has only ramped that enthusiasm up even more!

Check it out for yourself below and see what I’m talking about:

Bone claws!  “Kiddie” berserker rage!  Weapon X!!!  It’s got everything!

The Weekly Pile February 11, 2009: NOTHING?!?!

There’s a reason why this entry is both late and unusually brief this week…  My weekly pile consisted of exactly ZERO new releases this past ”New Comic Book Day”, or plain old “Wednesday” as it turned out to be for me…  This has never happened to me in over 15 years of reading comics.  There has almost ALWAYS been at least a couple of new comics in my subscription box come Wednesday afternoon.  But, there is a first time for everything.  Apparently…

…no reviews this week.  Just me talking about leaving my local comic shop with no new comics.  *sigh*

Favourite 5 #4: Spider-Man Artists of the Modern Age

51xjjfdfr1l_sl160_Spider-Man is arguably one of Marvel’s most popular and marketable characters and many artists have sharpened their pencils over the years for their chance to draw the wise-cracking, web-slinging hero.  During this time, we as comic book fans have been treated to some truly spectacular interiors and covers in the various Spidey books.  It was pretty easy for me to come up with my list of 5 favourite Spider-Man artists of the modern age so let’s get right into it.

Trivia Time #5: Image Comics - The Early Years

51gam3eadkl_sl160_My mind has been thinking back to those early Image days during the 90’s ever since the announcement of a Youngblood movie earlier this week.  So I decided to create a Trivia Time based on the exploits of superstar creators Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Erik Larsen, Whilce Portacio and Jim Valentino when they decided to leave Marvel and strike out on their own to create a comic company.  That company turned out to be Image Comics; a publisher still pumping out solid books today.

There will be 10 questions in total. I will post the answers to these questions on the Trivia Answers page. No peeking until AFTER you have taken the quiz!

Continue on to take the quiz and be sure to keep score and find out how you did when you finish. Each question is worth one point unless otherwise noted.
