The Weekly Pile February 11, 2009: NOTHING?!?!

There’s a reason why this entry is both late and unusually brief this week…  My weekly pile consisted of exactly ZERO new releases this past ”New Comic Book Day”, or plain old “Wednesday” as it turned out to be for me…  This has never happened to me in over 15 years of reading comics.  There has almost ALWAYS been at least a couple of new comics in my subscription box come Wednesday afternoon.  But, there is a first time for everything.  Apparently…

…no reviews this week.  Just me talking about leaving my local comic shop with no new comics.  *sigh*

I’ve come close to experiencing a ”fruitless Wednesday” a few times in the past with the closest call coming about 3 years ago after I left my LCS with only a single issue of Y: the Last Man on a particularly light week of new releases.  I did leave with at least ONE new comic on that occasion though, not a big pile of nothing!

It was a bizarre feeling to not have the “Weekly Pile” to take home and read this week after becoming so accustomed to it over the years.  I wasn’t really sad or disappointed though as I understand that there are much more important things in life and not getting some new comics certainly pales in comparison to life’s real issues and problems.  My weekly trip (and subsequent departure with a stack of comics) is something I very much look forward to, so not having it happen this week just felt “off”.

The good news is that another Wednesday is right around the corner!  Ultimately, my wallet was thankful for the week off, but my appetite for comics will be twice as hungry come this week’s New Comic Book Day.  Fingers crossed for quantity and quality!

The Weekly Pile will be back next week with actual reviews of actual comics I bring home…
